HECO®BETA-NUK
NUCLEATING AGENT ADDITIVE

Through HECO® beta NUK, polypropylene develops its unique crystal structure. Compared to the monoclinic α-modification, the hexagonal β-modification of polypropylene is characterised by better mechanical properties, in particular increased impact strength and stress crack resistance.

Product benefits – Additives for plastics

CRISTAL CLEAR

beta-NUK nucleates a fine beta crystalline structure in polypropylene. This greatly reduces attacks on the material surface and the penetration of chemicals.

DURABLE

beta-nucleated polypropylene withstands dynamic stress loads and offers high creep resistance to industrial piping systems.

IMPACT STRENGTH

beta-NUK significantly improves the impact strength without any significant loss in the stiffness of the material.

RESISTANT

The beta-crystal structure with minimised residual stress and the non-polar structure of polypropylene make the material guaranteed chemically resistant.

COLOUR-NUCLEAR

beta-NUK is a non-pigmenting nucleator. This means that the colour of the plastic tube can be selected as desired for each application – without much effort.

HECO®BETA-NUK NUCLEATING AGENTS FOR POLYPROPYLENE

HECOPLAST® will be offering a range of beta nucleation master batches designed to form high beta phase crystallinity in thermoformed, injection moulded and extruded polypropylene applications. The series starts with our HECO® beta NUK 401 PP, which has been specially designed for pipe manufacturers. Below you can see microscopic images of non-nucleated PP and PP nucleated with our HECO® beta NUK 401 PP. In addition, the Charpy & Izod impact strength was determined.

Charpy & Izod impact strength at room temperature:
Charpy (notched, according to ISO 179/1eA) and Izod (notched, according to ISO 180/1A) impact strength were each measured at room temperature. With HECO®β NUK 401 PP, the Charpy impact strength of polypropylene (MFI = 0.3) increases by 84 % compared to pure polypropylene and the Izod impact strength by 87 %.

Charpy impact strength at 0°C:
In addition, the Charpy impact strength (notched, according to ISO 179/1eA) at 0 °C was measured. Here, the Charpy impact strength increases by 28 % in polypropylene nucleated with HECO®β NUK 401 PP.

HECO®BETA-NUK NUCLEATING AGENTS FOR PLASTICS INCLUDE:

β
401 PP

Suitable for PP; non-pigmenting beta-nucleating agent; significant increase in impact strength of PP; improved productivity and excellent organoleptic properties; increase in chemical resistance
